Tube Valve Body – innovative body for diaphragm valves

Did you know that efficiency and sustainability in pharmaceutical, biotechnology and food production can be taken to a whole new level by optimising even seemingly minor components? With the Tube Valve Body, Bürkert demonstrates how a simple stainless steel tube can be transformed into a revolutionary diaphragm valve body through hydroforming: just as hygienic, robust and reliable as conventional valve bodies – but dramatically lighter. Discover a solution that pays off both economically and environmentally.

Strict hygiene requirements and increasing sustainability pressure

In the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries as well as in food production, plant components must not only be reliable and durable, but must also meet strict regulatory requirements in terms of hygiene. At the same time, companies are under increasing pressure to make their processes more sustainable. Energy-intensive cleaning and sterilisation cycles (CIP/SIP), high materials consumption and process-related downtimes also have a direct impact on operating costs, CO2 balance and plant availability.

Typical challenges:

  • Avoiding contamination and product loss
  • Reducing energy consumption and clean steam requirements
  • Minimising the carbon footprint over the entire life cycle
  • Extended downtimes and reduced maintenance intervals
  • Modular systems and easier integration into skids and plant

The solution: hydroformed body for diaphragm valves

With the “Tube Valve Body” – a complete rethink of the diaphragm valve bodies – Bürkert offers an innovative response to the increasingly stringent requirements when it comes to hygiene, efficiency and sustainability in sensitive production environments. For more sustainable, more efficient plants – without any compromises in process safety and reliability. What's special about it: The valve body is not forged, but formed from a flange and a single stainless steel tube – using the so-called hydroforming process.

How does hydroforming work for diaphragm valve bodies?

During hydroforming, a seamless stainless steel tube is placed into a forming tool and plastically formed under high internal pressure. Targeted pressure distribution and controlled heat treatment result in a precisely formed valve body – without weld seams in the media-contacting area, with consistently uniform wall thickness, and exceptionally robust.

Advantages of the Tube Valve Body

The design of the Tube Valve Body is consistently geared towards maximum hygiene and process reliability. The medium only comes into contact with the pipe material. The few weld seams are positioned in such a way that they are outside the media contact area. The result is an easy-to-clean valve body that meets the highest standards of hygiene and process reliability.

Thanks to its resource-saving, slim design, the body is easy to handle and easily integrated into skids. Its light weight also offers further advantages: The reduced thermal mass of the body enables faster heating and cooling during SIP processes and thus enables shorter cleaning processes, which saves time and energy and ultimately increases plant productivity. The shorter sterilisation time also reduces the thermal stress on the diaphragms, enabling a longer diaphragm service life. The result is a reduced need for maintenance work and lower spare parts costs, while the environmental impact of replacement diaphragms is also reduced.
