Burkert has teamed up with international auditor Exida to test and certify the SIL (Safety Integrity Level) of a selection of 2/2 way Angle Seat and Globe Valves.
Increasing demand for reliable safety systems such as ESD (Emergency Shutdown systems), and insurable process systems, has generated a market for SIL valves that are compliant with defined target SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems).
The following units are now available from Burkert and capable to SIL 3:
2000 Series Angle Seat Valve: 2/2-way angle seat valve for media up to +180°C, DN 13-65; when de-energised, normally closed with spring action;
2002 Series Angle Seat Valve: 2/2-way angle seat valve, compact valve body, for media up to +180°C, DN 13-65; when de-energised, normally closed with spring action;
2012 Series Globe Valve 2/2-way globe valve for media up to +180°C, DN 10-100; when de-energised, normally closed with spring action.

SIL is a statistical representation of the reliability of a safety system when a fault occurs.
Assessment of the units consisted of FMEDA [Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostics Analysis] investigation, which is a key step in the achievement of International Standard IEC 61508. IEC 61508 addresses the functional safety of programmable safety-related systems.
